I've heard tell that Steve Jobs is planning a big January announcement of the return of the Newton, or rather, the launch of a new presumably iPhone-type product that will bear that moniker. Anybody else catch wind of this?
And speaking of unpleasant odors, what about the 'revolutionary' new Amazon.com e-reader, Kindle. I think it's hilarious that not only does the thing's name sound like 'kindling,' but also that the marketeers at the big A apparently had this in mind all along! Eeedjits!

Newton is just too good a name to leave lying around, especially since most people seem to have forgotten or be unaware of the original bomb.

Good ideas, all. No thoughts on kindle? When I think of this product, I think of things like the Hindenberg and the boy band I tried to start with the other kids from the chess club.

The Kindle seems like something of a one trick pony to me. can only download content (and isn't there a restriction on where? like... Amazon, or something? did we already cover that? I don't know, I'm still woozy). The price on the ebooks are ridiculously high - ten bucks per book when you can get bundles of 5 for $15 and free content from Baen books free library. (Seriously people: March Upcountry. Baen has tons of military space operas)
Cool that you can read it on a sunny day, strange that you can't read it in the dark. One of the features I like on my ancient PDA.
I was approached by an air host as I sat reading my ebooks on a very very old Dell PDA who wanted to talk gadgets. He told me about a wicked sweet set up he had - newish PDA, wireless compatible, and he could run skype on it! Any country, any wi-fi - boom. Calls anywhere in the world. I'd rather use my $400 to set myself up something like that.

Yeah, I think the single use device is doomed for the scrapheap of history, there to take it's place alongside such relics of the past as 'Soviet Communism,' and 'the French doing anything worthwhile.' The iPhone and it's ilk are where it is all headed.
