It's been done many times, and probably other than in Britain - so who is the 2igtv forum members favourite TV Holmes...
Without having seen all incarnations, I'm going to say Jeremy Brett.

We don't have anything that cool over here in the states. That would be far too intellectual for us. We only like lame reality shows and shows that copycat all the great UK shows! I absolutely love Holmes and have read all of his adventures. What series should I start with to catch up? _________________ Cake or Death??

It's old(ish), from the 1980's and 1990's, but well done period pieces don't really age much at all (at least to me?)
The first they did were 'The Adventures of ...' and then 'The Return of ...'
The Adventures is 13 episodes, whilst The Return is a slightly shorter 11.
The Sign of Four and The Hound of The Baskervilles were shot at the same time as these with the same cast.
The Casebook and Memoirs were also done by the same people a number of years later (90's).
I got my copy from Amazon, and this link

explains it somewhat better than my attempt ... _________________ This is not war, this is pest control!

Mr. Sith- Thanks so much for all of the great information. It sounds like you'd make quite the sleuth yourself. I'll definitely check out that link and get started watching ASAP. _________________ Cake or Death??

Nothing beats the books. I just reread 'A Study in Scarlet' the other day upon receipt of a deluxe edition of 'The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes.' It astounds me what a debt the early Sir Arthur owes to Poe, and how the material evolves from its obvious inspirations.
Ever seen the ones with Holmes and Watson fighting Nazis? Love 'em. _________________ ***

I agree Bruce the books are the only reference I have of the great Holmes and the brave Dr. Watson. I really like The Italian Secretary. I bought a DVD set of Sherlock Holmes that has Christopher Lee, Morgan Fairchild and Engelbert Humperdinck (or Jerry Dorsey to those of you who are Eddie Izzard fans). Does anyone know anything about these movies? Are they any good or should I get my money back? Hopefully it's not some pathetic American version of the great sleuth. What is name of the series that dared to show Holmes vs. nazis? That sounds amazing! _________________ Cake or Death??
