Wow, I'm glad I actually decided to wait, and thank God those Star Trek dvds are combo discs.

Seems that Toshiba are indeed on the verge of going blue... http://www.darkhorizons.com/news08/080215c.php This is certainly a momentous development but is it the final nail in the red top coffin? What say ye learned folk?

Speaking as a learned folk-person second only to Mark. The final nail in this coffin will be when Microsoft create a Blu-Ray attachment for the XBox 360.
I believe that that is something that they had thought they might always have to do anyway, otherwise why did they not include HD-DVD as standard like Sony did with Blu-Ray in the PS3?

When we see any significant Microsoft support of Blu-Ray then Mark and I will declare HD-DVD officially dead and each episode of 2IGTV will be 10 minutes shorter Smile

Thats an excellent point. In practical terms if a game is coming out in both fomats I imagine that developers are limited to catering for the reduced capacity of the HD disc. If both systems were to go blue then there would be no limiting factor. Of course this would require the bar to be raised in many areas...

The bbc have just run a news story on the HD-DVD vs Blu-Ray format war and announced that Toshiba are thinking of pulling the plug on its HD-DVD format.

It also said that Store John Lewis will no longer stock HD-DVD...

...now true or not, i cant see any Joe Bloggs member of the public in the UK who saw that report going out and buying HD-DVD...

So as predicted ppl, Blu ray all the way.

I understand blu-ray is having it's own share of problems, and has in fact seen negative growth since HD-DVD quit the field. Creedon may be wise to skip an optical upgrade after all . . .
