A new UN study puts Ireland fifth on the list of 'best' places to live in the world. The top five, plus one:

1. Iceland
2. Norway
3. Australia
4. Canada
5. Ireland
12. USA! USA!

I wonder how high the U.S. would rank if we could grant independence to say, Mississippi, Detroit city, and a few other spots?

Obviously the list didn't take price of living into consideration

I understand that Ireland and Iceland both benefitted from the inclusion this year of their high rankings in the 'faeiries, pixies, sprites, brownies, and leprechauns per square mile' index.

What's the quote that opens that one Hellboy story:

'Up the airy mountain,
Down the rushy glen,
We daren't go a-hunting,
For fear of little men.'

William Allingham or some such?

Never managed to see a leprechaun, although I've assured a couple of Americans I did actually have a family of them at the bottom of my garden.

I wouldnt mind moving to one of the top five places, especially Ireland. Here in Michigan we have the 49th worst economy out of the 48 polled... wait I mean 50. Noooo! Even our education sucks.

I agree with you Crazy Clees. I love the good ol' USA but I would trade almost anything to live in Ireland or most any part of England. I'm trying to save up enough cash now to visit these great places that gave us David Beckham and Lucky Charms! (Just kidding) I hang their flags alongside ours in my house for God's sake! Seriously- maybe the Colonel would be willing to do an exchange for a month or so. There has to be a few Irish and British people that are as in love with the U.S. as we are with Ireland and Engalnd. I mean come on- we're not that bad are we? Surely we could do a sort of swap of some sort. Just for vacations and holidays not permanent or anything. Just a thought Smile

Yes Colonel, surely there's a large airing cupboard or an empty garret someplace where you could stash an American visitor? Hmm?

The Colonel does indeed have such spaces in stately Colonel Manor. However, clearing the same would raise numerous logistical difficulties, such as where to stash the 'bodies'?

Bruce Russell! I am surprised at you! What do you think all the bogs are for? Leaving it to the woman to all the "cleaning," are you?

Well, I always found bogs convenient ...
When most people say they have a soft spot for someone, unlike me, they aren't referencing a peat-bog ... Twisted Evil
