I'm guessing your guys were afraid to try Eberron. I have that book on order, and find the concepts fascinating from what little I've seen.
We played the first bit of the Expedition to Castle Greyhawk module, which I'd purchased on a lark just to read along with the 3.5 Player's Handbook.
Our party consisted of 1) my cousin Robert, a veteran of many campaigns and Mystara-devotee playing a half-elf druid named Greenbrier, 2) my wife Shannon playing for the first time, who chose a halfling druid named something I forget, and who did quite well especially for a noob, 3) my nine-year old nephew Matthew, also a noob, who took on the role of a Dwarven fighter, and 4) me, who in addition to playing the dungeon master, took on the role of a vocal NPC cleric. My sister, another noob, joined us for the second night as an elven mage, and we also brought in a human barbarian I'd rolled up for my brother-in-law, who was unable to play due to a quarterly tax deadline.
I've since purchased the 3.5 DM guide, and have gone nuts on eBay the last couple days picking up various and sundry D&D manuals.
